Locally accepted WIA Intensive Services (registration
required) shall, at a minimum include one or more of the following
services:
1)
Comprehensive and specialized assessment such as diagnostic testing
and in-depth interviewing:
Workforce Investment Act (WIA) customers will receive an interview
with an Employment and Training (E&T) Counselors for the purpose
of advising customers on the current labor market information,
applicable staff-assisted services, and short term training available
in relationship with a stated career goal. Administration of interest
or aptitude tests may be given to benefit the customer in determining
a career goal.

2) Development of an Individual
Employment Plan (IEP):
This is a written plan of action developed by a WIA customer
with an E&T Counselor. It outlines mutually agreed upon resources,
services, and training that are required to reach your career
goal.

3) Group
and individual counseling and career planning:
Each WIA customer works with an E&T Counselor who will provide
continual feedback, advice and opportunities to assist the customer
in reaching his/her career goal. Group counseling is provided
when individuals have similar needs for information and support
such as short term computer classes or job search services.

4) Case management for
participants seeking training services:
If a customer is working with various employment or training
agencies or other Human Service agencies his/her E&T counselor
can coordinate services and information to prevent duplication
of effort, confusion, and delays.

5) Short
term prevocational services of less than six(6) months that does
not lead to a credential, license or certification:
A WIA customer might benefit from any number of short term classes
available in the Community or from classes delivered right at
the One Stop Career Center in Canton. Examples of these services
could be Computer Classes, Medical Terminology Classes, Accounting/Bookkeeping
Classes, "How to" classes in Interviewing, Communication,
Job Search, Driver Preparation Classes or Resume Workshops, just
to name a few.

6)Supportive services:
The counselor can assist a WIA customer in finding a childcare
provider and/or paying for the childcare; can help pay for a physical
or shots necessary to be employed; or offer financial assistance
with transportation in the form of car-pooling or mileage reimbursement;
or assist in finding and paying for tools or a uniform necessary
to start a job. This is not a complete list of services available
in this category. Support Services are there to give direct help
to a customer who is participating in staff-assisted services
in the One Stop Career System.

7) Follow-up services:
For 12 months after a WIA customer has left One Stop Services
he/she may receive case management services, individual or group
counseling and information, and support services from the One Stop
Career System.
Advancement Criteria: In order for a participant to advance
from Intensive to Training Services, he/she must satisfy the following
criteria:
1 - Have met the eligibility requirements
for Intensive Services (663.240), have received at least one Intensive
Service and have been determined to be unable to obtain or retain
employment through such services;
2 - After an interview, evaluation
or assessment, and case management, have been determined to be in
need of training services and to have the skills and qualifications
to successfully complete the selected training program;
3 - Select a program of training
services that is directly linked to the employment opportunities
either in the local area or another area to which the individual
is willing to relocate;
4 - Are unable to obtain grant assistance
from other sources to pay the cost of such training.Note: Advancement
from one level of service to another requires verification in the
participant's case file that established criteria has been met to
support the advance.
