The program will provide summer internship stipends to St. Lawrence County young people between the ages
of 17-25 to perform work in the private sector. The program will be managed through the Youth Bureau.
The purpose of the program is to:
• Help young people develop career goals & workplace skills,
• Establish their personal networks in jobs and careers in the North Country community,
• Build bridges from education to the local market, and
• Encourage positive attitudes about the workforce & work opportunities in the North Country.

The St. Lawrence County Office of Economic Development, under the Workforce Investment Act (WIA), plans to
operate Summer Youth Employment Opportunities from July 7 through August 15, 2008. If you can provide youth
with meaningful summer work, good supervision, and are interested in having youth work for your agency this
summer, please complete the enclosed request form and return it to our office.

Workforce Investment Act Local Plan Modification Open for Public comment
The St. Lawrence County Office of Economic Development, under the
Workforce Investment Act (WIA), will hold a meeting April 1st, 2008 at 10:00 A.M.
in the Office of Economic Development conference room. Located at 80 State Highway 310
Suite 6, Canton, New York. This meeting is open to the public for their comments on
the modifications to the local plan.

The St. Lawrence County Workforce Investment Board Youth Council through the St. Lawrence County Office of Economic Development seeks to renew a Request for Proposals soliciting proposals to provide training in the following areas:
YOUTH WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMS
The Office of Economic Development is the Administrative Agent for the Workforce Investment Act (Public Law #105.220) funding for St. Lawrence County. Training will be targeted to participants meeting eligibility requirements for economically disadvantaged status. This solicitation will be for training for the time period from July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008.

Priority for worksite selection will be given to those agencies who can best provide useful work experience, safe worksites, and close supervision.
The Workforce Investment Act requires that Summer Youth Employment Opportunities provide remedial education to a portion of its total youth enrollments. This may have an affect on your worksite. Participants enrolled in remedial education may only be able to work 25 hours per week rather than the usual 30.
