  • New York State Department of Labor
    The New York State Department of Labor is New York State’s primary advocate for job creation and economic growth through workforce development. The department administers New York’s unemployment insurance system, labor exchange system, and Welfare-To-Work programs. The department also oversees state worker protection programs, including enforcement of safety and health regulations in the public sector, state labor laws and federal statutes related to working conditions, wages and hours, and laws related to Public Work. The Department of Labor serves as the State’s principal source for labor market information and offers a variety of services designed to help businesses find workers and people find jobs.

  • St. Lawrence-Lewis Board of Cooperative Education Services (BOCES)

    The St. Lawrence-Lewis BOCES serves as a vehicle for the coordination of educational services within our region. Our mission is to meet the needs of our customers by:
    • preparing students to become contributing members of their communities
    • initiating programs in response to emerging needs
    • encouraging the sharing of resources and expertise
    • providing opportunities for professional growth
    • including all constituents in the decision-making process

  • Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities (VESID)

    The Mission of the Office of Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities (VESID) is to promote educational equity and excellence for students with disabilities while ensuring that they receive the rights and protection to which they are entitled; assure appropriate continuity between the child and adult services systems; and provide the highest quality vocational rehabilitation and independent living services to all eligible persons as quickly as those services are required to enable them to work and live independent, self-directed lives.

  • St. Lawrence County Department of Social Services

    The St. Lawrence County Department of Social Services provides temporary assistance to eligible individuals and families to help them with their basic needs until they can become self-sufficient. Toward that end, we have employment programs and other supportive services such as day care so that people can find and maintain employment. We also administer programs which can assist people with their medical expenses and nutritional needs. In addition, Children's Services helps families deal with problems so they can stay together and, when necessary, provides foster care. Child Protective Services investigates allegations of abuse and neglect. Child Support assists in collecting financial support from legally responsible relatives.

  • St. Lawrence County Office for the Aging

    The St. Lawrence County Office for the Aging is one of 59 Area Agencies on Aging in New York State. Targeted are those persons 60+ years old with the greatest social and economic needs, especially low-income minorities. The office strives to preserve the dignity, independence and security of older people and their families. Non-medical, cost-effective home and community based services are developed and coordinated so that older citizens of the County may remain in their own homes and communities for as long as possible and avoid costly institutionalization.

    Three major services:
    - Senior Community Service
    - Employment Program (SCSEP) Food
    - Friendship Program (Nutrition) Transportation

  • St. Lawrence County Youth Bureau

    The St. Lawrence County Youth Bureau is a leader in policy development, planning for and promoting the well being of youth and their families through youth development and prevention.

    The St. Lawrence County Youth Bureau ensures that access to programs which prepare individuals to communicate, be political, and practical are accessible to all St. Lawrence County children, adolescents, and young adults.

    Services:
    - Allocation of State Funds to municipal recreation programs,
      delinquency prevention, and youth development programs.
    - Research & County planning of youth services.
    - Administration of the Youth Conservation Corps (YCC), St.
      Lawrence County Youth Leadership Institute (YLI), and the
      Clarkson County Connection (CCC).

    Program Description:

    Youth Conservation Corps

    A fusion of leadership training, mentoring, conservation education, and work-based learning. The mission of this initiative is to provide services that address educational needs, work ethic, work attitude, job retention skills, personal development, and the role that youth have in civic leadership and responsibility. The key element of YCC is helping young people develop through community service.

    Youth Leadership Institute

    YLI is a program designed to give high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors the opportunity to learn from community leaders and practice leadership skills. The program focuses on civic development, the challenge of youth representation, and taking responsibility for social change.

    Clarkson County Connection
    A program designed to support and guide selected students from Potsdam, Parishville, and Colton-Pierrepont schools in their pursuits of a secondary Regents diploma. This mentoring program aims to increase the academic and social performance of its participants, offers these individuals opportunities to broaden their scope of thinking, and supports the positive growth of a participant's character. The program's primary goal is to promote a positive alternative to alcohol and substance abuse during non-school hours. Thus, the hidden agenda is to assist youth in developing skills and to provide a sustained relationship with a college peer who serves as a role model and guide.

  • St. Lawrence County Veterans Services

    The mission of the Veterans' Service Department is to provide a conduit through which Veterans, Military Personnel, their family members, and their survivors can access benefits to which they may be entitled by virtue of military service. Our goal as Veterans' Benefits Counselors is to furnish the means to procure these benefits. Our primary objective is to obtain the absolute maximum in dollar value in benefits for St. Lawrence County claimants from whatever sources are available. Of equal importance is our responsibility as an accredited service office to "inform and assist" in relation to: matters pertaining to educational training and retraining services and facilities; health, medical and rehabilitation services and facilities; provision of federal, state and local laws and regulations affording special rights and privileges to members of the armed forces and war veterans and their families; employment and re-employment services; and other matters of similar, related or appropriate nature or as may be assigned by the State Director. Other, intangible benefits include reduce price hunting and fishing licenses, access passes to state parks, thruway permits to certain disabled veterans and VA guaranteed home loans to eligible veterans and survivors.
